Te Ayoyo: My Inspiration
As a jewelry designer, I find inspiration in many places, but nothing has inspired me more than my two beautiful children. The Te Ayoyo charm has great meaning for my family, and once you know the story of how it came to be, I hope you’ll be similarly enchanted.
My daughter Atiana completely transformed my life. From the day she came into the world in 2007, I wanted to make sure she was aware of how much I was in love with her. I read a book to her every night, and just before she fell asleep, I’d tell her “Te Adoro, Atiana” (“I adore you, Atiana”).
This went on for many nights, and when Atiana was just starting to speak, she responded in a way that evoked surprise and delight: “Te Ayoyo.” While she couldn’t say the phrase correctly, she clearly understood the deep meaning behind it; it was reflected in the love in her voice.
That night was so emotional for me, and it forever changed the way we expressed our love. We say “Te Ayoyo” at bedtime, before Atiana leaves for school and whenever we feel like it. My son, Andres, who was born in 2011, has also been taught this family routine, something that helps us ensure we never forget how much we adore each other.
As a mother, I always want to protect my children, but I know it’s impossible to be with them all the time. I created the Te Ayoyo charm as a tangible symbol of how much I adore them. It’s more than a piece of jewelry; it’s a little piece of my heart they can carry with them. I also wear a Te Ayoyo charm as a constant reminder of how much Atiana and Andres adore me.
This special charm represents the love we have toward our children, partners, family and friends. I hope you start your own Te Ayoyo ritual with this beautiful piece, to remind those you love how much you adore them.
